Where Light Waits Differently
I walked the dock before the world remembered itself. There was no unveiling, no grand arrival—just light unrolling in quiet defiance, slipping between the masts and rooftops, threading its way through the cool hush of early air. The marina wasn’t asleep, but paused—like it knew the sky was doing something it hadn’t done before. Reflections didn’t behave like reflections. The water wasn’t mirroring; it was holding. Something closer to memory than mimicry. I stood still, not to understand it, but to belong to it.
This wasn’t calm. This was clarity in another dialect—where colors don’t soothe but recalibrate, where violet and flame spill over fiberglass hulls like a forgotten language made visible again. Even the boats seemed caught in the in-between, unsure whether to dream or move. And maybe that’s the gift of this light—it doesn’t announce a beginning. It reminds you that you are already inside one. It arrives without permission, electric with restraint, filling every edge of metal and skin not to illuminate, but to inhabit. I left with no answers. But I left awake.

Masts held their breath.
The sky slipped
between rooftop and rope,
doing something
it hadn’t done before.
The water didn’t mirror.
It held.
Not reflection—
but memory
folded in color.
This wasn’t calm.
It was clarity
in another dialect—
violet and flame
relearning how to speak.
Even the boats paused,
unsure whether
to dream or move.
Some mornings
refuse to declare themselves.
And maybe this is what light is—
not arrival,
but recognition,
inhabiting the body
until you remember you're already inside the beginning.
