West Chop Blushing Sky
There are certain moments when the universe arranges itself so perfectly, all you can do is stand still and let your heart remember. This photograph, West Chop Blushing Sky, was taken on a summer evening when the sun melted into the horizon like an ember sinking into silk. I stood on the bluff, surrounded by the hush of dusk, the water shimmering in a molten ribbon of gold and tangerine. The sky, kissed with warm violets and flame, held everything gently. And just off to the side, a bride and groom watched the sunset too—newly married, hand in hand. Though I don't know their names, their presence in that moment made the scene feel even more sacred.
I like to think that, just like the photograph, their love will hold the blush of that evening forever. That every time they see the sun descend over still water, they’ll remember what it felt like to begin their forever bathed in light. So I dedicate this image to them—and to all the romantics of the world. To those who believe in love that glows from within and reflects outward, like sunset on sea. May we all keep something tender burning inside us, no matter how many years pass.
Poem: To the Ones Who Still Believe
Beneath a sky that caught fire gently,
the sun dropped a whisper into the sea—
not with fury, but with reverence,
as if to say: love begins this softly,
glowing before it even has a name.
The couple looking passed the dock didn’t speak—
they didn’t have to.
The light did it for them,
brushing their faces with blush and vow,
draping them in forever.
Even the leaves knew something sacred
had entered the air—
their green turning gold
as if to honor
what two hearts had chosen.
I watched from behind wild lilac bushes,
bearing witness with my lens
to love's quiet theater—
a stage of sky and water,
no curtain, no end.
And so, dear dreamers, this is for you—
who still turn toward beauty
with open palms,
who still believe in the possibility
of a sun that sets only to rise again.
