Menemsha Paradise

I titled this image Menemsha Paradise because to me, it holds the tranquility of divinity — the kind you stumble upon just as the light surrenders into color. I took it on Menemsha Beach, one of those rare places where time leans back and exhales. I intentionally framed only a portion of the lifeguard stand, letting it become form rather than function — a silhouette of something once intended for watching, now itself being watched. This wasn’t about symmetry or documentation. It was about gesture, hue, and the quiet declarations of dusk.

What I captured — or what captured me — was the line where blue deepens and gold lets go. The sea, ever ancient, flickers beneath a sky that shifts by the second. And there in the margin stands that wooden frame — part memory, part monument, part unknown. It could be a door, a threshold, a window to whatever paradise is: not a place, but a presence. In this abstraction, I found something oddly exact. The more I withheld, the more the image revealed.

The Frame of Light

I stood where the day ends slowly,
where the sky forgets its name—
a palette lost to language,
the sea chanting
like a priest with no parish.

The lifeguard stand — partial,
cropped on purpose —
became a glyph
on the glowing horizon,
an alphabet of wood and longing.

It is not what we see in full
that moves us —
but what leans
into the hush
and leaves room for wonder.

Color held its breath.
The ocean did not—
and I knew,
in that communion,
how stillness could shimmer.

This was no accident of lens,
but a conversation with light,
with the patience
of things
willing to become art.

And what is paradise
but the refusal
to name the whole of it—
only to stand,
and let it pass through you?
