Luminous Murmurs Along The Shoreline

I went to the beach in Aquinnah not simply for beauty, but for breath. In times like these—when the world fractures itself with violence, greed, and the dangerous rise of authoritarian cruelty—I need more than headlines. I need soullines. I return to this shoreline again and again to remember who I am outside the noise, outside the fight. The ocean, ancient and insistent, whispers a truth my body remembers but my mind sometimes forgets: I am part of something vast, rhythmic, and indivisible. I took this photograph at sunset and called it Luminous Murmurs Along the Shoreline because that's what the waves said to me. They said: you are not alone. They said: keep speaking truths, but also—keep listening.

These days, I often speak out—for BIPOC, for the oppressed, for the earth itself. I will not be silent. But I have learned that my voice is only as strong as the silence that anchors it. And so I walk this shore, letting the wind undo the knots in my spirit. The sunset reminds me that even endings can be radiant. The sea reminds me to return, return, return—to justice, yes, but also to tenderness. To stillness. To love in ways that don’t need translation. To love with the whole tide in me. This photograph is a practice. It is a call to center ourselves in something larger than fear, fatigue, and submissive conformity. It is my offering to the world. A reminder that there is still light in various forms. And it is moving toward us.

Luminous Murmurs

I come here when the world breaks open—
again—like a wound that never healed.
The tide has no answers,
but it holds me without question,
like my mother once did.

A slow hush climbs over the rocks,
soft syllables of the sea
pressing against my skin—
saying: you can advocate and still be gentle,
saying: rest is not surrender.

The sun descends in flaming grace,
and I remember
protest is not my only name.
I am allowed to relax while shimmering,
even in a storm.

So I carry both:
justice in one hand, mercy in the other.
I walk the line where water
meets earth,
unafraid to belong to both.

And when I rise from the shore,
salt still in my hair,
I rise luminous—
not from light alone,
but from listening.
