Ocean Love: Lucy Vincent Beach, Chilmark

There are moments when the world hushes, and you can hear your heart speaking back to the earth. One evening at sunset on Lucy Vincent Beach in Aquinnah, I felt that conversation unfold. I had drawn the word "LOVE" into the soft, golden sand, feeling a deep need to honor something larger than myself — a devotion not just to one person, but to life itself. As I stood back, the tide, gentle and steady, stretched its fingers across the shore, reaching for the word as if the ocean itself wanted to whisper it back. I lifted my camera and caught the moment — the light, the water, the sky, the tender power of connection — all cradled together in a single breath of time.
I titled this photograph "Ocean Love" because that's what it felt like: the ocean loving us back. In the vibrant colors of the sunset, in the playful foam of the incoming tide, and in the quiet rock anchored in the water, there is a story about resilience, beauty, and how love finds a way to touch everything. This picture is a reminder that even as life moves and changes, some things — the most important things — remain. Love leaves its mark not because it stays still, but because it moves with the tides and rises with the light.
Ocean Love
The sun kisses the rim of the world,
melting colors into the open palms of the sea,
where dreams swim just beneath the foam,
and every breath feels like a new beginning.
I press my hope into the sand,
a simple word, open to the sky,
while the waves, curious and kind,
come closer to carry it into forever.
The water hums a song without end,
spinning golden light over the stones,
while somewhere deep in the salt and blue,
a memory of joy twirls like a leaf.
Here, where the shore forgets and remembers,
where the sea draws everything close,
I understand that love is not a place to find —
it is where we already belong.
