“Light as a Feather” – Aquinnah, Martha’s Vineyard
I took this photograph just after sunrise on the rocky shoreline of Aquinnah, a place that always feels like the quiet edge of the world. The wind was soft but insistent, and the only sound was the breath of the Atlantic rolling over stone. I found this feather resting upright in a weathered piece of driftwood—no explanation, no human hand. Just placed there, precise as a poem, as if the island itself had something to say. I stood still and listened. That moment became Light as a Feather.
Aquinnah holds a kind of power that refuses spectacle. The cliffs don’t demand your awe—they let you arrive to it on your own. It’s where you come when you’re ready to hear something older than noise. People talk about energy, spirit, presence—this place has all three, unforced and unpolished. In Light as a Feather, I wanted to capture that rare kind of grace that needs no witness, and yet somehow finds one. This is not just a photograph—it’s evidence that silence has shape.
This image is now available on my website. If you’ve ever needed to be reminded of your own stillness, your own breath, your own grounding—this piece will meet you there. It’s ideal for those who crave peace in their space, or for anyone who has ever stood at the edge of land and felt the sea tell them: you are part of this too.
“The Feather Stood”
The feather did not beg for sky.
It stood where wood had split
and stone had settled,
as if to say
not all flight is leaving.
The ocean did not look back—
it kept folding into itself,
writing in water
what no mouth could keep
and no grief could erase.
I did not touch the feather.
I let it speak without hands,
its stillness louder
than any history
I carried to that shore.
The land in Aquinnah
does not perform softness—
it offers clarity,
the kind that arrives
only when you stop asking.
And so I left it—
white and upright,
half shadow, half answer,
exactly where the earth
chose to place it.
