Evening Glow at Aquinnah captures the golden hush of day’s end along the sacred Aquinnah cliffs of Martha’s Vineyard. The sun lowers gently into a horizon, its light spilling over a beach strewn with ancient stones. Each rock, shaped by time and tide, seems to hold a quiet history, yet nothing weighs down the moment. Instead, everything—light, sky, stones, surf—moves in harmony, creating an atmosphere of reverent stillness. This image is an homage to nature’s quiet alchemy, where every element has a role in the beauty that unfolds.

When I stood on the shores of Aquinnah and watched the sun descend, I felt as if the earth itself was exhaling. What struck me most wasn’t just the glow on the water or the painted sky, but how the stones—thousands of them—sat without resistance, bearing witness. Their presence didn’t interrupt the sun’s journey; it deepened it. The cliffs, the tide, the wind—they weren’t competing for attention. They were collaborating in a slow, wordless symphony. That’s what Evening Glow at Aquinnah holds for me: the quiet wonder of things that don’t ask to be beautiful, but simply are, together.

Poem: Evening Glow

The sun leans low,
spilling light like honey
across the scattered stones—
none of them perfect,
all of them belonging.

Waves speak in pulses,
but the cliffs do not reply.
They listen
as light traces
their ancient lines.

Each stone carries a history
that does not burden the sea.
Their weight grounds the shore
but never dims
the journey of sky or flame.

In this alchemy of elements,
no voice rises above the rest.
Together they shimmer,
whole
without needing to shine alone.

I leave no mark
but take a lesson:
beauty is not made
by erasing struggle,
but by sharing the light.
