for the woman who remembers

A single fish swims from my throat—
not to escape,
but to remind me
that I am made of rivers
no map has named.

My braid is a thread of skywater,
tied with the breath of those
who spoke before me.
They live in the silence
between pulse and prayer.

I carry their songs
without needing to sing—
their memory curves
through the bones of my face,
through the gaze I do not lower.

Time does not move forward,
not here.
It pools, it circles,
it comes back with stories
still wet from the source.

So I stand at the edge of the visible,
listening.
Not for answers,
but for the weight of truth
that hums behind every stillness.
