Aquinnah Waves

Today, I stood alone on a winter beach in Aquinnah, Martha’s Vineyard, and witnessed the kind of sunset that feels like a secret gift. The cold wrapped around me, but the sky — alive with hues of molten gold, blush pink, and endless sapphire — wrapped me even closer. Waves tumbled toward the shore, their crests catching the last fire of the day, each one a small explosion of light and motion. The beach was a symphony of sensation: the salt on my lips, the crash of surf in my ears, the deep, rhythmic pull of the ocean inside my chest. I had the feeling that the world had carved out this moment just for me, unbothered by time or season, a reminder that beauty does not wait for permission — it simply arrives, magnificent and whole.

"When the Ocean Wears the Sky"

The sea wore the sky like a cloak tonight,
stitched in gold and lavender,
swirling with the last breath of the sun,
its waves alive with a secret language
only the heart can hear.

I stood where the earth sighs,
toes sunk in the braided foam,
as if the horizon pulled me closer,
inviting me to lean into its forever,
to forget every name so I could remember this wonder.

The light touched everything —
even the stones at my feet shimmered,
even the cold, bright wind
seemed painted from some forgotten palette
where every color had a soul.

The ocean did not rage, it danced,
it lifted its arms to the heavens,
catching in its hands
the slipping threads of daylight,
weaving them into tides that carried dreams.

And for a long, long while,
there was no past, no future,
only the wide breath of beauty,
the endless giving of color and sound,
and the small, grateful hum of my heart.
