The Black Swan (Original)

“Black Swan” reimagines the traditionally ominous symbol of the black swan into a radiant affirmation of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. In this surreal, soulful portrait, the central figure—a woman with warm, luminous skin and eyes that hold centuries of strength—emerges as both muse and mirror. Her eyelashes frame a gaze that is resolute, her expression tender yet unyielding. Behind her, a soft, dreamlike blue fills the canvas, punctuated by white blossoms that evoke peace, transformation, and quiet hope.
Hovering just above her crown is a golden halo, a subtle but powerful gesture of sanctity and reverence. Below, two black swans glide across a reflective pool, their mirrored forms suggesting both duality and unity. Once viewed as harbingers of disruption, these swans are reclaimed here as emblems of beauty, mystery, and survival. Together, these elements offer a visual poem that reframes what it means to be rare, radiant, and free in a world too quick to fear what it does not understand.
Poem: Black Swan
Her face is carved in sunset tones,
each contour etched with fire and flight.
She does not flinch beneath your gaze—
she is the question and the rite.
A bloom unfolds behind her head,
a golden hush, a whispered light.
The sky behind is sea-born blue,
a hush of stars and silken air.
White petals drift like sacred names—
a vow, a breath, a softened stare.
She does not need to speak of pain;
the silence tells you she was there.
Two swans in shadowed elegance
glide through the glass of mirrored fate.
Their necks form arcs of quiet truth—
not threat, but grace we fabricate.
Black feathers ripple in the tide,
too rare to break, too bold to wait.
She stands between what’s said and meant,
between the myth and what is real.
You called her omen, wild mistake—
she answers only what can heal.
No storm, no ruin, no regret
can blur the brilliance she reveals.
Let her be swan, be flame, be dawn,
not tethered to your fear-made lore.
She is not what the world has lost—
she is the echo, and the door.
Through her, the waters rise and part;
the sacred enters once ignored.
So look again—begin anew.
This black swan sings in full command.
She claims the hush, the blaze, the bloom,
the aching hush you misunderstand.
She does not ask to be redeemed—
only to rise, and to expand
