The sun breaks the horizon in a clean line,
gold pooling where sea meets sky.
Clouds hang in long, uneven rows,
their edges lit, their centers cool and dense.
A bright column stretches across the water,
steady, unbroken, reaching the shore.
The surface holds it briefly,
then loosens it into small, widening ripples.
Dune grass stands dry and wiry along the slope,
bent toward the beach, rooted in winter sand.
The shoreline curves away, pale and open,
a quiet sweep of land meeting the tide.
I watch the colors shift and re-form—
gold thinning into peach, blue deepening above.
Each morning offers a different arrangement,
and I stay with what the sunrise decides to give.
