Sea La Vie: A Painted Offering of Ocean Spirit

I recently had the joy of volunteering for the Cotuit Federated church fundraiser by painting a wooden mermaid—an act that became both a creative escape and a heartfelt gift to the community. Titled Sea La Vie, this whimsical piece reflects my lifelong love for the sea. I wanted Sea La Vie to feel alive, to capture that underwater magic we often forget exists just beneath the surface of daily life. Her name is a gentle play on words—a nod to c’est la vie, reminding us to embrace life as it comes, with all its unexpected tides and turns.

Now, she waits to find her next home, not just as a piece of art, but as a symbol of community care and shared imagination. I hope Sea La Vie reminds whoever brings her home to slow down, to dream, and to honor the waters that sustain us all. More than just décor, she is a celebration of ocean spirit, made with love, offered in service. You can bid on this mermaid on August 16th and the 17th. The highest bidder gets to bring her home!
